M.A. Corporate and Organizational Communication
The M.A. program in Corporate and Organizational Communication is a program intended for people interested in a career in communication intensive positions. Given that managerial skills and leadership require the management and effective navigation of human relationships, the program is tailor made for any field, organization, or vocation involving the management of people.
This is a 36 hour program that affords students the opportunity to focus on organizational communication. Upon the successful completion of 36 graduate credit hours and passing a comprehensive exam, the student will be awarded the M.A. degree. A GPA of 3.0 is required for graduation and any grade lower than “B” does not count toward the 36 hours. Dependent on approval from the program coordinator, students may transfer up to 6 graduate credit hours toward the 36 credits required for graduation.
The program’s faculty travel to several locations throughout the state and provide real classroom instruction. What’s more, since WVU is a Research Intensive university, the faculty don’t simply use textbooks, they write them and do research that helps define the Communication Studies discipline. Classes usually meet on Friday nights from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and again on Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm for two weekends. Students also do projects and complete a final paper for each course. The program has operated continuously for the last 15 years and we’ve managed to “keep it real” for the duration; real faculty, real classrooms, real convenient, and real affordable.
