Research Interests:

Dr. Patterson has been with WVU for 29 years. His published research has focused on Communication and Aging and Friendship. He has also published work in Organizational Communication and Computer Mediated Communication. His teaching interests are similar to his research interests (Communication and Aging, Communication and Development, and Intercultural Communication). He also teaches a genre based approach to motion picture appreciation. There are presently four versions of COMM 305: Gangsters films, Dystopian films, War films, and Romance films. He has developed in excess of 25 courses during his time with WVU. He currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Mountaineer Youth Club.
