Joe Wasserman

Curriculum Vitae

Area of Emphasis

  • Interactive Media
  • Systems Thinking
  • Mental Models

Joe Wasserman's research is on cognitive processes underlying interactive media consumption. More specifically, his research attempts to open up the "black box" of mental models to explain game-based learning and other media effects, such as parasocial contact. His current work integrates scholarship on recreational gaming, skill acquisition, game-based learning, and systems thinking under a single theoretical umbrella consistent with mental model matching theory.
